This material is not just for Toad users…I think anyone working with the Oracle RDBMS can benefit from these lectures. I’ve blogged on this material but you get to see me live, with demonstrations at times, go thru the Oracle Explain Plan process. Next Tuesday (Aug 30) I’ll go thru the Explain Plan process and entertain a level of detail on explain plan content. I’ll start with explain plan syntax and how to properly setup Toad to do SQL statement tuning. The 2 nd part will be a chapter right out of my book ( click here for book details), Toad as a SQL Tuning Tool. I’ll have some newer material. You will see just how useful Toad is in the SQL Tuning arena. I’ll cover some on SQL trace too. Toad is excellent at reviewing SQL trace files. This lecture and demonstration will be Sept 13. The final two parts deal with indexes. Sept 29 I’ll cover the index options, including Oracle11 and Oracle12 new features. I’ll share how I solved tuning issues by switching the types of indexes being used. The final part about indexes on Oct 13 will be exactly why Oracle uses some indexes and not others, how the CBO selects indexes, and the real issue with too many indexes…amazing the problems this causes.
