Data Masking for Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) 12.2 is now easier for Enterprise Manager Cloud Control 13c, since the data masking template for this version has recently been certified. In real life, EBS administrators clone their environments all the time, for different development teams, and for testing purposes by different teams. Confidential data often needs to be masked before handing over to development teams or offshore companies. But it is not easy to do this in EBS, since there are a lot of tables and the relationships between the tables are defined in the application logic itself. Setting up data masking for EBS using the data masking pack is therefore not easy, unless you use the specially supplied “masking template” from Oracle which understands the complex data relationships in EBS, and also identifies the confidential and sensitive columns that should be masked. At the same time, the validity of the data in the masked version will be maintained. Oracle EBS version 12.2 features online patching, which uses the Edition-based redefinition (EBR) feature of the Oracle database for the first time. This minimizes downtime by letting you upgrade the database component of an application while it is in use. As a result, editioning views are introduced in EBS 12.2, and as such a new masking template had to be created and released. The following My Oracle Support MOS) note explains this further: Note 2076834.1: Using Oracle E-Business Suite Data Masking Pack, Release 12.2 with Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control 13c Note that the Database masking template is available as “Patch 22868456: E-Business Suite 12.2 Data Masking Template for Data Masking Pack with EM13c”.
